Outdoor Days Sept. 6-8 at Lake Springfield Park

The Springfield-Greene County Park Board partners with Bass Pro Shops' Outdoor Fitness Festival for a full weekend of outdoor recreation and adventure at the 6th Annual Outdoor Days, Friday, Sept. 6 through Sunday, Sept. 8 at Lake Springfield Park.

Beginners, seasoned outdoors enthusiasts and scouts are invited to take part in camping, hiking, fishing, boating, bird watching, primitive skills and more outdoor activities as well as interact with demonstrations, crafts and vendors. Admission and most activities are free; canoe and kayak races have a registration fee. Register at 833-8647 or 833-8923.

Activities presented by the Park Board include:

Bring your own camper, trailer or tent for free overnight camping, Friday night through Sunday afternoon. Restrooms and water available, but no showers or RV hook-ups. Bonfire Saturday night, but no individual ground fires allowed. Bring your own meals. Registration is required by Tuesday, Sept. 3. FREE.

Boating and Water Safety Demonstrations
Hands-on demonstrations with boating instructors for ages 7 and up (adult partner required if under 18.) Offered in partnership with Safe Kids Coalition. FREE.
Canoeing: Saturday, 1-4 p.m.
Kayaking: Sunday, 1-3 p.m.
Paddleboarding: Sunday 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m.

Canoe Sprint Race
Teams of two race Saturday morning at Lake Springfield. Bring your own canoe or rent one for $10. Register at 9 a.m., race at 10 a.m. Prizes of Bass Pro Shops merchandise cards awarded for first, second and third place teams. Age 16 & up, $20/team.

Kayak Sprint Race
Single-person competition Saturday at Lake Springfield. Bring your own kayak or rent one for $10. Register at 9 a.m., race at 11:30 a.m. Prizes of Bass Pro Shops merchandise cards awarded for first, second and third place teams. Age 16 & up, $15/person.

Bat and Cave Awareness
Learn about Park Board caves and endangered Gray Bats, Big Brown Bats, Little Brown Bats and Tri-Colored Bats. Held at Sequiota Park, 3500 S. Lone Pine, Sunday, just after sundown. FREE.

Outdoor Days also includes the Bass Pro Shops Outdoor Village, the Missouri Department of Conservation, Wonders of Wildlife activities, the Off-Road Camping Club Outdoor Skills Village and the James River Mountain Man Rendezvous Village.

Other groups participating in Outdoor Days include the Girl Scouts of the Missouri Heartland, the Boy Scouts of America Ozark Trails Council, University of Missouri Extension 4-H, Master Naturalists, Springfield Plateau Grotto and the Watershed Committee of the Ozarks.
