Turkey Trot Early Bird registration now open

Despite the summer weather, fall is just around the corner and Early Bird registration is now open for the 19th Annual Turkey Trot 5K Walk/Run, coordinated by the Springfield-Greene County Park Board and Developmental Center of the Ozarks.

Turkey Trot takes place Thursday, Nov. 28, 8 a.m., at the Springfield Exposition Center, 635 E. St. Louis St., in downtown Springfield.

Turkey Trot is Springfield's largest timed 5K walk/run of the year and the largest Thanksgiving Day 5K in Missouri, attracting 9,007 participants in 2012. The event is held rain, snow or shine.

New this year, participants may choose from four race categories, with staggered start times:

Early Bird registration, available until Friday, Nov. 22, is $20 for adult, $15 for kids 12 and under. Registration includes a long-sleeve T-shirt.

Early Bird registration closes at 5 p.m. Nov. 22, and will remain closed until the day before the race. On-site registration opens Wednesday, Nov. 27, 8 a.m. at the Springfield Exposition Center at $25 for adults and $20 for children.
