NeighborWoods accepting applications for spring 2014 tree-planting projects

Springfield is celebrating 10 years of the NeighborWoods program. The NeighborWoods program is a partnership between the City, the Springfield Tree City USA Citizens Advisory Committee, City Utilities and recognized neighborhood groups or other non-profit groups for the purpose of enhancing Springfield's community forest. City funds are used for purchasing and planting tax-exempt trees from area nurseries through established City contracts. Neighborhood volunteers then establish the trees for a minimum of three years.

NeighborWoods is accepting applications through Dec. 1 for spring 2014 tree-planting projects. If your neighborhood is interested in enhancing its community forest, contact NeighborWoods Coordinator Troy Powell, at 874-2154 or
