Media Invited to Fire Department Recruit Extrication Training

The Springfield Fire Department would like to invite local media to watch as our 13 new recruits learn how to rescue someone trapped in a vehicle. This extrication training will take place Monday, October 7th, beginning at 12:30pm at Buddy’s Auto Mall located at 5740 W. Highway 60 in Republic.

Buddy’s Auto Mall donated six cars to the Department to be used for the training. This training is part of the Missouri Division of Fire Safety Firefighter I and II certification training, which all new recruits in Springfield are required to complete. Trainees will be using numerous tools, including the “Jaws of Life” to open the vehicle. Media are invited to view and film the training during this time.

Last year alone, Springfield drivers had to be extricated 35 times. Extensive training in how to properly rescue a patient from a vehicle is critical to reducing injuries and saving lives.
