Suspect receives multiple burglary and stealing charges

Several elderly persons have fallen victim to ruses executed by Stacy R. Eason that have been occurring regularly since July of this year. At 10:15 a.m. on Oct. 9, Springfield police located and apprehended Eason at a hotel at 2455 N. Glenstone Ave, and he confessed to committing the 11 crimes for which he was questioned. The crimes included stealing jewelry and also cash, credit cards and other items from wallets while inside victims' homes. Many times, Eason scammed the victims by making them believe he was at their homes to provide legitimate home improvement or yard maintenance services, and once the victims were distracted he committed the crimes.

Prior to Eason's arrest and confessions on Oct. 9, he had already accumulated nine warrants for charges of Burglary, Exploitation of the Elderly, and Stealing (with the same Modus Operandi stated above) from the following Missouri counties and towns: Greene County, Jasper County, Hickory County, Polk County, Chillicothe, Springfield, Vienna, and Willard.

The cases were presented to the Greene County Prosecuting Attorney's Office. Four counts of 1st Degree Burglary, two counts of 2nd Degree Burglary, two counts of Felony Stealing, and three counts of Misdemeanor Stealing were filed against Stacy R. Eason, 46, with a bond of $150,000. Eason has a residential address in Houston, Mo., but was known to frequently stay in Springfield hotels. The charges announced herein are merely an accusation and Eason is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.

If anyone else believes they were also victimized by Eason, please call the SPD at 417-864-1810. Always be skeptical of contractors who solicit business door-to-door, remember to watch for warning signs of home improvement schemes, and take note of any suspicious activity you observe in your neighborhood.
