Outdoor Initiatives schedule for November and December

The Springfield-Greene County Park Board's Outdoor Initiatives offers a variety of outdoor and nature-based programs throughout November and December for youth, families and adults, including:

Archery Clinics
Try archery for the first time or brush up on your skills with National Archery in Schools Program instructors. Registration required by 5 p.m. the Tues. before.
Valley Water Mill Park 833-8647
Age: 8 yrs. and up
Date: Nov. 16 & Dec. 14
Time: Sat., 1-2:30 p.m.
Fee: $5/Person
Youth Archery Tournaments
Put your eagle-eye archery shooting skills to the test in this Archery Tournament with National Archery in Schools Program instructors. Prizes awarded. Registration required by 5 p.m. the Tues. before.

Backpacking Cooking Clinics
Learn how to cook while backpacking. Includes packing, setting up camp kitchen and hands-on cooking with fun and easy recipes. Registration required one week in advance.

Natural Wonders of Lost Hill
A guided walk in Lost Hill Natural Resource Park, including: cave and karst features, fossils, glades and cactus, loosing streams, the "Cozy Cave Clubhouse" and Leave No Trace trail ethic. Registration required by 5 p.m. the Tues. before.

Ritter's Ecology & Wildlife
A guided walk at Ritter Springs Park, including cave and bat awareness, endangered species, wildlife, glades and Leave No Trace trail ethics. Registration required by 5 p.m. the Thurs. before.

Little Critters Holiday Nature Crafts & Games
Make a holiday nature craft and play games. Participants receive a take-home packet. Registration required one week in advance.

Winter Outdoor Safety & Preparedness
Prepare for being stranded in your car or home in a winter storm, learn what to do if lost in a remote location or if you fall into cold water. Registration required by 5 p.m. the Tues. before.

Wilson's Creek National Battlefield Day Trip
Visit the museum and explore the Civil War battlefield by van and short walks. Fee includes transportation to and from the Springfield-Greene County Park Board office at 1923 N. Weller Ave. Bring your own sack lunch, snacks and water. Registration required one week in advance.
