Charges filed against suspect involved in meth lab explosion

At 8:52 p.m. on Nov. 7, the Springfield Police Department (SPD) was dispatched to a duplex at 1730 N. Clay by request of the Springfield Fire Department (SFD) in reference to a vehicle catching fire due to a suspected meth lab. Zachary J. Marrion, 25, of Springfield, was inside the vehicle at the time it caught fire. He was injured from the fire and fled from the scene before officers arrived.

When the SPD arrived on scene, officers could smell a strong chemical odor coming from the vehicle and determined that remnants of a meth lab were still inside the vehicle. Officers were later able to apprehend Marrion at a Springfield motel. He was arrested but transported to a hospital for treatment prior to being booked at the Greene County Jail.

Officers received consent to search the residence and located additional items related to meth manufacturing. Also discovered at the home was evidence that Marrion was making explosive devices.

Charges were presented to the Greene County Prosecuting Attorney's Office, and charges filed against Marrion were the following: one count of manufacturing a controlled substance, one count of possession of a controlled substance, one count of possession of chemicals with intent to manufacture and possession of paraphernalia, one count of unlawful possession of a weapon, and one count of unlawful manufacturing of a weapon. He is in custody at the Greene County Jail with a bond of $100,000. The charges announced herein are merely an accusation and Marrion is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
