Inspection & Enforcement

Inspections

There are two choices for a self inspection schedule of the Best Manangement Practices (BMPs).

Choice A

inspection will be done at least once per 7 calendar days. Inspections must also occur within 48 hours after any rain event equal to or greater than 3.74 inches (2 year, 24 hour storm) and has ceased during a normal work day and within 72 hours if the rain event ceases during a non-work day such as a weekend or holiday.

Choice B

inspection will be done at least once per 14 calendar days. Inspections must also occur within 24 hours after any rain event equal to or greater than 0.25 inches or the occurrence of run off from snowmelt. If the storm event continues for multiple days and continues to accumulate 0.25 inches, you are required to conduct an inspection within 24 hours of the first day of the storm and within 24 hours after the end of the storm. Check the online rain gauge to determine the amount of precipitation. Inspections are only required during project normal working hours. Areas on-site that have been finally stabilized must be inspected at least once per month.

The operator / permittee should consider developing comprehensive inspection procedures to address conditions at their site. These procedures include:
  • Formal and informal inspections
  • Inspections before, during and after rain events
  • Targeting certain BMPs or areas more frequently
  • Training staff and subcontractors
