The Springfield-Greene County Health Department works with college students in a variety of ways that are mutually beneficial to both students and the department. Opportunities are available for interships, service learning programs and other types of projects. The nature of these opportunities is determined by both students' needs and the department's current needs. The Health Department's internship program is designed to offer graduate and undergraduate students an opportunity to gain work experience in local government. The program seeks to accomplish the following objectives:
Allowing Health Department programs the chance to identify potential future employees
Encouraging students to complete valuable work products
Enhancing students' performance while providing valuable job skills
Promoting collaboration with the academic community
Providing opportunities for students to network and meet many public health and community professionals
Providing opportunities for students to receive valuable work experience in public health
