Establishing healthy behaviors to prevent chronic disease is easier and more effective during childhood and adolescence than trying to change unhealthy behaviors during adulthood. The Springfield-Greene County Health Department works with parents during and after pregnancy to ensure expecting families, infants, toddlers, children and teens stay healthy.
During and after pregnancy
Free pregnancy testing is available at the Jordan Valley Community Health Center at 440 E. Tampa in Springfield. No appointment is necessary.
The NEST Partnership provides nurse case management for at-risk prenatal women or families with young children. Services are delivered in the home during scheduled visits for nurse assessment, intervention, education and collaboration with health care providers.
The Women, Infants and Children (WIC) Program is designed to improve the nutritional health of pregnant women, breastfeeding moms, infants and children, up to the age of five with the goal of improving the overall health of families. WIC provides nutrition education, breastfeeding education and support, a supplemental food package and referrals to health care providers and local agencies.
