Shingles (Herpes Zoster) is a painful skin rash, often with blisters. The rash causes severe pain and can last two to four weeks. Shingles can lead to other health issues and even cause severe pain after the rash clears. It is caused by the same virus that causes chickenpox; only someone who has had chickenpox or the chickenpox vaccine can get Shingles. It is most common in people over 50 years old or with weakened immune systems.
The Shingles vaccination program for Greene County residents over 60 years old is funded by the Greene County Senior Citizen Service Fund Board. Vaccinations are given at our main location at the Harold K. Bengsch Building and through a partnership with Jordan Valley Community Health Center. Call 417-831-0150 for more information about the shingles vaccine.
