Nearly 20 percent of the Springfield Police Department is comprised of civilian employees who serve in a broad variety of administrative, technical and operational positions. Every member plays an integral role in day-to-day operations of the Department. The vast majority of non-sworn personnel work as Police Service Representatives. Additionally, there are civilian employees in roles including: computer forensic analysts, crime analysts, traffic service officers, fleet and equipment management, a forensic evidence technician, records management, a planning technician, a financial analyst, investigative services specialists, office administrators, administrative assistants and a data entry clerk.
The Cadet Unit is a volunteer operational unit designed to prepare the cadets (age 16-20) for a career in law enforcement while supplementing the resources of the department. A cadet is required to fulfill at least four hours of service to the department each month. Some duties include providing assistance with the Ozark Empire Fair, dignitary visits, tours, parades and other events.
