Avoiding Car-Truck Crashes

Every year hundreds of people are killed and injured in accidents involving large trucks. A 2002 research study prepared for the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety found that automobile drivers contribute more to accidents involving large trucks than do the truck drivers. Car drivers caused 75% of all driver errors compared to 25% for truck drivers.

Remember when driving near large trucks that they can't stop or swerve as quickly as automobiles-don't force them to brake or swerve suddenly. Watch for the large blind spots which trucks have. If you can't see the truck driver in the truck's mirrors, he can't see you. A little extra attention could go a long way towards preventing an accident. And always wear your seat belt.
