Chelsea has worked for the Springfield Police Department since 2003.
What advice do you have for someone thinking about coming to work for the City?
I would tell them they wouldn’t regret their decision. With Springfield’s size, city employees are often provided unique and innovative opportunities throughout their careers. Individuals who work for the city tend to be passionate about their jobs. It’s an enjoyable place to work.
What have you learned since working at the City?
I’ve learned how great a community we have in Springfield, MO. During my 15+ year career in law enforcement, I’ve witnessed daily the amount of support and respect the citizens of Springfield have for the police force. Seeing our community rally together during times of hardship is always an amazing and encouraging experience.
If you could switch your job with anyone else, whose would you want?
I would love to be a zookeeper at the Dickerson Park Zoo!
What are you passionate about?
After working as a detective in the Child Crimes Unit for the past 8 years, I’ve gained a new outlook and passion for the youth in Springfield. Through the years, I’ve seen firsthand the effect law enforcement can have on empowering children, educating children, and serving as positive role models in our schools and our community.
How does your position impact the community?
I’m grateful that my work assignment allows me to focus on helping children. The Child Crimes Unit strives to be solid ground for families during their most vulnerable times. Being able to get justice for families and making our streets safer is my unit’s primary goal.
