Springfield's MS4 Permit

The City of Springfield implements a Stormwater Management Program to reduce pollutants in stormwater runoff.   This program is required by the City’s Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System (MS4) permit issued by the Missouri Department of Natural Resources.  MS4 permits are issued to cities and counties under the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) program of the federal Clean Water Act to reduce discharges of pollutants in stormwater to the nation’s waters.   The City first received its MS4 permit in 2002.  The City’s Stormwater Management Plan describes the program and activities the City implements to reduce pollutants in stormwater as required by its MS4 permit.
