City to begin housing study process this week

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

APD Urban Planning + Management out of Atlanta, GA will be in Springfield later this week to begin conducting a comprehensive housing condition study for the city. This will mostly be an introduction and data-gathering visit, according to Brendan Griesemer, Assistant Director of Planning & Development. Residents may initially see members of the consultant team driving through many northside neighborhoods to start reviewing conditions, although they will eventually evaluate the entire city. The APD-U team will collect information on housing types, condition, tenure and unit counts of each housing unit. They will also evaluate neighborhoods for amenities, such as green space, sidewalks and trails.

The consultant team will evaluate the collected information to identify areas of housing need, maintenance, and neighborhood amenities. The information analysis will ultimately be utilized to develop housing and neighborhood improvement strategies and build consensus with the community for strategic improvements.

A community engagement event will take place in February. Watch the City’s social media sites and springfieldmo.gov for updates.
