Springfield Environmental Services names Dan Jessen as Superintendent of Solid Waste division

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE 

The City of Springfield’s Environmental Services department has named Dan Jessen as Superintendent of Solid Waste division, effective May 7.

jessenDan8648In his almost 23-year career at the City of Springfield, Jessen has served primarily in the Public Works department in a variety of roles. He began as a Project Engineer in the Traffic Engineering division, then held the position of Signs and Markings Supervisor. Jessen most recently served as the Operations Supervisor in the Street Operations division, responsible for the pavement management program and maintenance of the City’s streets, sidewalks, ditches, stormwater infrastructure, utility cuts and snow removal efforts.

As the Superintendent of Solid Waste, Jessen will lead a diverse team of approximately 60 employees working to implement the City’s Integrated Solid Waste Management System which includes the Noble Hill Sanitary Landfill, Yardwaste Recycling Center, Recycling Drop-off Sites, Household Chemical Collection Center and Education and Market Development Program. Jessen will also be in charge of leading City-wide outdoor air quality initiatives, hazardous waste and superfund site management.

Jessen holds a Bachelor of Science and Masters degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.

“Dan has served the City for over twenty years in many key roles, leading several community initiatives and vital emergency weather response efforts throughout his tenure,” explains Assistant Director of Environmental Services Erick Roberts. “Dan is a proven leader and creative thinker with great team building skills and will be a great addition to the Environmental Services leadership team.”
