FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
The City of Springfield is soliciting qualification statements from firms interested in providing architectural services for the City of Springfield Animal Shelter New Building and Site Improvements located at 3303 W. Division St.
In 2014, the City of Springfield Animal Issues Task Force recommended that a new Animal Control and Welfare Shelter be designed and constructed to provide the community with a larger facility that provides a wider array of programs and service than currently available in the existing facility. In 2020, the City of Springfield purchased a five-acre undeveloped site located at the northwest corner of West Division and North O’Hara. Prior to the land acquisition the City invested in a site analysis exercise to verify this site could facilitate the Animal Shelter’s current and future needs. After the site acquisition, the City invested in a program refinement exercise which revealed the new Animal Shelter would require approximately 12,000 square feet of space. This new Animal Shelter is funded by a partnership of Greene County and City of Springfield. The amount budgeted for construction, soft costs and OFCI/OFOI items is $4,250,000.
