Former Mayor Pro Tem Chuck Wooten passes away

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Mayor Ken McClure and City Council send sincere condolences to the family of former Mayor Pro Tem Chuck Wooten, who passed away this morning. A 1945 graduate of Springfield Central High School, Wooten went on to serve on the City Council from General Council Member from 1983-1984, as Zone 1 City Council member from 1985-1988, and Mayor Pro Tem from 1987-1988. He represented Greene County District 137 in the Missouri House of Representatives from 1988 to 1996 and also served in the Navy for three years before a 34-year career with the U.S. Postal Service.

“What people will remember most of about Chuck was his many contributions to his community – a lifetime of public service,” said Mayor McClure. “The Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Springfield would not be a reality without Chuck Wooten. He was a wonderful, caring person committed to public service."
