FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
City Attorney Rhonda Lewsader has announced she will retire at the end of 2023, after 24 years of service to the City. She has worked as a municipal prosecutor for 13 years, was Airport Legal Counsel, and advised numerous departments before becoming Deputy City Attorney and then becoming the City Attorney in 2019.
“Rhonda has done a superb job in a very fast-paced, often challenging environment,” said City Manager Jason Gage. “She led us through the COVID-19 pandemic, was instrumental in reaching an agreement for the purchase of Hammons Field and has provided guidance on numerous topics that have helped Springfield grow and thrive. We will miss her.”
Lewsader said she is proudest of getting to lead and work alongside an outstanding group of attorneys and legal staff. She led a 20-employee department that represents the municipality and City Council in all legal matters.
The search for a replacement will begin in coming weeks.
