Springfield, Mo. – Following several significant motor vehicle crashes involving speeding, the Springfield Police Department is encouraging the public to slow down and pay attention to the road while driving. Posted speed limits are in place to help keep drivers and the community safe.
“Officers continue a focused effort to increase traffic stops and issue citations when warranted,” Chief Paul Williams said. “By enforcing traffic violations and educating the community, we hope to prevent tragic incidents in the future.”
From January to July in 2023, officers issued 3,798 citations for speeding in Springfield, which is up 29 percent from the same period in 2022. In July 2023, officers issued 498 speeding citations, an increase of 69 percent over July 2022.
