The Springfield Police Department would like to invite anyone who is interested in becoming a Springfield police officer to attend an upcoming informational seminar. There will be two options for the seminars: in-person and virtual.
The in-person seminar will be held at 6 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 14, at the Springfield Regional Police and Fire Training Center, 2620 W. Battlefield Road. Attendees will learn about the entire testing process, including the physical agility test, written examination, oral interview, background investigation and post offer exam. It is not mandatory that an applicant attend, but information given during the seminar may prove helpful to them during the testing process.
The SPD has also recently begun offering virtual Q&A sessions with Officer Jon Conklin, resource management officer for the SPD, using an app from Twitter called Periscope. This app allows the department to broadcast live video to any users in the world while also allowing followers to type in comments or questions during the broadcast. The next virtual Q&A session with Officer Conklin will be on Twitter’s Periscope at noon on Dec. 16. SPD can be found on the Periscope app at @SGFpolice.
“We visit a lot of career fairs and community events to meet potential police applicants. We want to allow anyone in the nation that opportunity to get to know our department and explore all the opportunities available to them at one of the best police agencies in the county,” said Conklin.
The next opportunity for police officer testing will be Jan. 8, and the deadline to apply is Jan. 1 at goSPD.com. Additional dates for testing will be added to the SPD’s website for the summer 2016 police academy.
