The Greene County Medical Examiners report shows 24-year-old Timothy L. Stain died of smoke inhalation from a house fire in his home on March 12, 2016. The candle was left burning on the dining room table in close proximity to the back side of a sofa.
Two occupants were in the upstairs bedrooms when the fire began. One of the occupants awoke to the smoke and fire conditions. He was able to escape through a window. Strain was unable to escape.
There were smoke alarms in the residence but the batteries had been removed. There was no sprinkler system in the building.
