FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Mt. Vernon Street between Orchard Crest Avenue and Suburban Avenue will close for four months beginning at 8 a.m. Tuesday, July 5 as crews continue construction on the Mt. Vernon Street Widening Project.
Motorists are advised to use alternate routes and watch for the marked detour on Suburban Avenue.
Also beginning July 5, the intersection of Mt. Vernon Street and Orchard Crest Avenue will be converted from a two-way stop to a 4-way stop to increase safety at this intersection. All approaches will be clearly marked to alert drivers of the change.
The Mt. Vernon Street Widening Project involves widening Mt. Vernon to 3 lanes, improving the existing stormwater system, upgrading gas and water lines and constructing sidewalks on both sides of Mt. Vernon.
Funding for the project is from the voter-approved ¼-cent Capital Improvement Sales Tax. The contractor is Hartman & Company.
