FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

The City is opening the first part of the Central Pythian Corridor Improvement project with a newly reconfigured roundabout at Central Street and Sherman Avenue. It will be open to traffic beginning Wednesday, Aug. 17.

Eventually, traffic will be completely rerouted from Central Street onto a newly-created Pythian Corridor. As a result of this project, Central Street will no longer serve as a through street.

While the second part of the project (from Hampton to National) is under construction, a detour will be posted to guide eastbound and westbound traffic.

Beginning Friday, Aug. 19, the signal at Pythian Street and National Avenue will be operational. This signal will incorporate a new flashing yellow left-turn arrow. Pythian Street between Hampton Avenue and Florence Avenue will open to traffic as well.

Construction along the corridor will be ongoing through September. The signal at Central Street and National Avenue will be removed near the end of the project.
