FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE The City of Springfield’s June 2016 1% general sales tax check from the Missouri Department of Revenue is up 11%, or $444,782, compared to the amount budgeted. The check reflects sales processed by the state in March from transactions made primarily in April. The sales tax check was $4,591,729, compared to the budgeted amount of $4,146,947. When comparing to the same month last year, May receipts were up $511,300, or 13% over May of 2015. On a year-to-date basis, revenues are up 5% over budget, or $1,925,625. The City heavily relies on sales tax revenues as its main source of revenue to fund vital services, such as police and fire operations.
