City Manager Greg Burris named Marianne Banks to serve as Interim City Attorney, effective March 14, 2016. Banks temporarily replaces Dan Wichmer, who recently took a new position with Legal Services of Southern Missouri. Banks has extensive experience, previously serving as a briefing attorney for the Tenth Court of Appeals in Waco, Texas, an Assistant City Attorney in College Station, Texas, and for 11 years as City Attorney in Georgetown, Texas, before entering private practice in 2001. She began working with the City of Springfield’s Law Department in 2002. Banks was designated as a Fellow of Municipal Law by the International Municipal Lawyers Association in 1999, and currently serves on their Board of Directors. She is a graduate of St. Mary's University School of Law and The University of Texas at Austin. She and her husband, Brian, have three daughters, two of whom are grown and the youngest attends Central High School Burris will form a search committee consisting of members of the City’s Leadership Team and an attorney from another city to conduct a formal search for a permanent City Attorney.
