FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE The City of Springfield's February 2016 1% general sales tax check from the Missouri Department of Revenue is down 7%, or $223,927, compared to the amount budgeted. The check reflects sales processed by the state in January from transactions made primarily in December 2015. The sales tax check was $2,936,856, compared to the budgeted amount of $3,160,783. When comparing to the same month last year, February receipts were up $32,553, or 1% over February of 2015. On a year-to-date basis, revenues are up 3% over budget, or $819,066. The City heavily relies on sales tax revenues as its main source of revenue to fund vital services, such as police and fire operations.
