FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE The City of Springfield's October 1% general sales tax check from the Missouri Department of Revenue is up 5% compared to what was budgeted. The check reflects sales processed by the state in September from transactions made primarily in August The sales tax check was $3,757,918, compared to the budgeted amount of $3,567,974. When comparing to the same month last year, October receipts were down $22,656, or 1% under October of last year. On a year-to-date basis, revenues are up 6% over budget, or $820,859. The City heavily relies on sales tax revenues as its main source of revenue to fund vital services, such as police and fire operations. In Springfield, approximately 60% of revenue in the General Fund comes from sales tax and use tax.
