Birthplace of Route 66 Festival concert to feature Nitty Gritty Dirt Band

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE The Gillioz Theatre and Dwight Glenn Productions are proud to present the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band with special guests Pure Prairie League on Friday, Aug. 14 at the Gillioz Theatre. Reserved seating tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. this Friday, April 10. The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band nears their fifth decade together, with multi-platinum and gold records, strings of top ten hits such as “Fishin’ In The Dark” and “Mr. Bojangles”, multiple Grammy, IBMA, CMA Awards and nominations to their credit. Their groundbreaking “Will The Circle Be Unbroken” album has been inducted into the U.S. Library of Congress as well as the Grammy Hall of Fame. NGDB’s recording of “Mr. Bojangles” was also inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2010. In 2014, “Fishin’ In The Dark” was certified platinum for digital downloads by the RIAA. Special guests Pure Prairie League continues to embellish their rich 43-year history s one of Country-Rock’s pioneering forces. Their first album – featuring the Normal Rockwell/Saturday Evening Post cover that introduced fans to PPL’s trademark cowpoke “Sad Luke” – has been hailed as a “major influence in the emerging popularity of Country-Rock music”. Their second effort, the multi-platinum “Bustin’ Out” brought us the Craig Fuller-penned classic “Amie”, along with other gems of the genre. With “Two Lane Highway”, nine more albums and countless shows, their legacy continues to grow. The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band with special guests Pure Prairie League is the Friday night anchor of the Birthplace of Route 66 Festival, celebrating Springfield as the birthplace of the historic highway that has been celebrated in popular culture.
