FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Filing closed at 5 p.m. Tuesday for those interested in running for a City Council seat or for Springfield mayor. Five of nine council seats are on the ballot. The following seats are up for election:
- Mayor (currently occupied by Bob Stephens) Mayor Stephens is seeking reelection. Steven Reed has also filed to run for this seat. Danny Lee Henderson turned in materials by the deadline, but has not been certified.
- General Seat C (currently occupied by Doug Burlison)
Kristi S. Fulnecky and Len Eagleburger have filed to run for this seat. Allen Kemper and Jared Tucker turned in materials by the deadline, but have not been certified. - General Seat D (currently occupied by Mike Carroll)
Ken McClure has filed to run for this seat.
- Zone 2 (currently occupied by Cindy Rushefsky)
Buckley "Buck" Van Hooser, Justin Burnett and Josh Mareschal have filed to run for this seat. - Zone 3 (currently occupied by Jerry Compton)
Councilman Compton is seeking reelection. Mike Schilling has also filed to run for this seat.
Those wishing to file petitions must meet the following criteria:
- Qualified voter of the city;
- Resident of the city for at least two years immediately prior to their election; and
- Additionally, if filing for one of the Zone seats, must be a resident of their respective zone for at least one year prior to election.
To be valid, the petitions must meet the following criteria:
- Zone: 100 registered voters, who reside in the particular zone;
- General: 200 registered voters, who reside within the city limits.
