FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE The City of Springfield and Affordable Housing Action Board invites the community to tour a newly completed affordable-housing property 4-5:30 p.m., Monday Nov. 17 at 1107 N. Forest. The three-bedroom, two-bathroom new-construction residence is one of two affordable-housing rental properties constructed to be fully accessible to persons with disabilities. To provide affordable-housing options to Springfield residents, the City’s Neighborhoods and Planning Office provides U.S. Housing & Urban Development (HUD) program funds to developers and local nonprofit groups such as AHAB, which in turn construct the homes and act as landlords to those who income-qualify for affordable housing programs. The 1107 N. Forest home was constructed with HUD HOME Investment Partnerships funds. “Affordable housing that is accessible to persons with disabilities is in very high demand in Springfield,” says Planning and Development Manager Brendan Griesemer. “We are proud to assist AHAB in offering a home of this quality.” In addition to its affordable housing loan programs, the City, in partnership with Community Partnership of the Ozarks, opened the Affordable Housing Center at 300 E. Central in June 2013. The Center offers the community direct access to key housing service providers including, the Springfield Community Land Trust, One Door, the Housing Authority, Veterans' Administration, Catholic Charities of Southern Missouri and more. Each of these agencies provides important steps and services in the continuum of care for people seeking stability and affordable housing solutions. An online search tool is also available at theaffordablehousingcenter.org/.For more information, please contact Brendan Griesemer at 864-1695 or Sherry Blair at AHAB at 865-4055. # # #
