constructionskillup

The Ozark Region Workforce Development Board's contractor for the Youth Program, Preferred Family Healthcare, received a $190,000 grant for a youth specific Multi-Trade Pre-Apprenticeship program. The grant will fund a three-phase program for 15 participants age 18-24.

The three-phase program will include a stipend gradually increasing from $10 per hour to $12-$15 per hour as participants' skills progress. The program will include classroom and hands-on training with the Carpenters Union, Laborers Union, Floor Layers Union, and area contractors. The Missouri Job Center and Preferred Family Healthcare will be hosting three information sessions on Friday, December 15; Monday, December 18; and Wednesday, December 20 for those interested to learn more about the Multi-Trade Youth Pre-Apprenticeship Program starting in January 2018.

The information sessions will be held at the main Springfield Job Center, 2900 E Sunshine, from 10-11:30 a.m. and 3-4 p.m. Candidates must be age 18-24, and additional eligibility requirements may apply. Participants will receive an OSHA 10 certification, resume, interview and soft skills services, as well as career clothes, tools, and transportation assistance. Participants will also meet directly with the three Unions for curriculum developed using a mixture of classroom teaching and hands on experience. Participants will also have the opportunity to shadow local contractors for additional real world experience in each trade. The Ozark Region Workforce Development Board and Missouri Job Center serve the counties of Christian, Dallas, Greene, Polk, Stone, Taney, and Webster. The Ozark Region boasts three Missouri Job Center locations (Branson, Springfield, and North Springfield), as well as a Mobile Career Center.
