Jon Mooney

Jon Mooney has been named Assistant Director of the Springfield-Greene County Health Department.

Mooney began his career with SGCHD in May 2013 as the Administrator for Chronic Disease Prevention. In his nearly five-year tenure here, Mooney has been a key leader in collaborative partnerships in the community and advocating for the health of our area. Prior to SGCHD, Mooney served for eight years at valued partner Jordan Valley Community Health Center.

“Collaboration is such a key in public health. I believe in building strong relationships, both within our department as well as throughout the community,” Mooney said. “Two collaborative projects I am most proud to have been a part of are the Regional Health Assessment and the rebirth of our community’s Healthy Living Alliance. Both have included remarkable partnerships that helped the community strategically align efforts to better improve health.”

Mooney received his Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science from Truman State University, and his Master’s degree in Health Promotion and Wellness Management from Missouri State University.

Mooney joins Katie Towns as dual Assistant Directors. SGCHD’s top leadership has included two assistant director roles since 2015.

“Jon has proven himself to be an innovative and creative member of our leadership team. I look forward to working with him in his new role as we continue to evolve as a public health department,” said Clay Goddard, Director of Health.

Mooney’s new role is effective April 1. Moving forward, Mooney will focus on spearheading the 2019 Regional Health Assessment, guiding departmental quality improvement, and working with partners to develop community actions to address priority health issues.

Mooney is a member of Leadership Springfield Class 32 and was named to the Springfield Business Journal’s 40 under 40 in 2016. Mooney is also an active member of Wesley United Methodist Church, and keeps busy coaching his kids’ soccer and basketball teams. Mooney and his wife of 14 years, Becky, have three kids.
