Mayor’s Commission on Human Rights to host community meeting Aug. 16

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

The eight members of the Mayor’s Commission on Human Rights and Community Relations will host a meet-and-greet and community input session at 5:45 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 16 at the Midtown Carnegie Branch Library’s Community Room – Upper Level.

Commission members, several of whom are newly appointed, look forward to meeting citizens and sharing information on how to apply for open board positions for the City of Springfield. A listing of City boards and commissions is available at springfieldmo.gov/boards.

The commission’s purpose is to promote understanding and respect among all citizens and provides the community recourse for discriminatory acts. It investigates alleged incidents of discrimination and tries to mediate settlements between affected parties. It also acts as a clearinghouse for information regarding human rights and offers its services to help educate interested citizens and community groups.

Members are appointed by the mayor of Springfield and meet at 5:30 p.m. on the third Wednesday of each month in the first floor conference room of the Busch Municipal Building.
