The City of Springfield is hoping the development community can give two old fire stations new life.
The City is seeking proposals from qualified applicants for the purchase and reuse of former Fire Station 1 at 235 N. Kimbrough and former Fire Station 6 at 1201 S. Campbell. Prospective offerors may register to inspect either property by calling 417-864-1037.
All statements of qualifications and proposals for reuse shall be judged on:
- the proposed purchase price;
- the merit and viability of the proposal as described in the submission;
- the proposed time to put the property into productive use;
- the qualifications of the applicant;
- the quality and detail of the submission;
- the project’s benefit to the community and surrounding neighborhood;
- the ability of the proposal to accomplish any other goals it may identify; and
- consistency with the City’s adopted Growth Management and Land Use Plan.
In addition to the above, statements of qualifications and proposals for reuse for former Fire Station 1 shall be judged on:
- the project’s benefit to the development and viability of downtown Springfield;
- the ability of the project to aid in enhancing the tax base of the City of Springfield and other taxing districts in the area;
- the ability of the project to aid in increasing employment in the city;
- the ability of the proposal to accomplish any other goals it may identify; and
- consistency with the City’s adopted Center City Plan.
Sealed proposals with six bound copies, one unbound copy and one electronic copy on a flash/thumb drive, must be received by the Springfield Planning and Development Department no later than 3 p.m., March 6. Proposals will be opened at that time. Late proposals will not be accepted. Proposals shall be addressed as follows:

Properties within the Downtown Redevelopment Area are eligible for partial real property tax abatement pursuant to Chapter 99, RSMo. Description: This property was constructed as a two-story fire station and small accessory building. The fire station contains a gross building area of 9,592 square feet (2,848 square feet in finished first floor 3,896 square feet in the first-floor garage, 2,848 square feet on the finished second floor). The accessory building contains 900 square feet (450 square feet on each floor). The building is brick-on-brick construction over a poured concrete foundation. (Building Construction Class C) The interior remains largely as originally constructed. The upper floor has a large open dorm area, showers and a locker room. The first floor includes an apparatus garage, gear room, administrative offices, day room, kitchen and restrooms. The garage is an exposed structure with four overhead doors on each end.
