Second Give 5 class to graduate Thursday

MEDIA ALERT

Nearly 30 retirees ready to give back to the Springfield-Greene County community will graduate from the Give 5 program  at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, April 5 at Kentwood Hall, 700 E. St. Louis. Each graduate will participate in a signing ceremony with their chosen nonprofit, pledging to volunteer five hours a month.

The first Give 5 class graduated in February, with graduates already volunteering and making a difference in the community.

Give 5 is a newly created social program that matches innovative volunteer opportunities with retired (or almost retired) baby boomers. Each class meets 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m., once a week for five weeks, visiting nearly two dozen nonprofits over the course of the program. Participants can expect to have fun, make new friends and learn about volunteer opportunities that match their talents, passions and personality. Those interested in participating should apply at springfieldmo.gov/give5. Participants must be 60 years old or older and live in Greene County. Nonprofits interested in hosting a Give 5 presentation can also apply at springfieldmo.gov/give5
