June sales tax revenues up 11% compared to June 2018

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

The City of Springfield’s June sales tax revenues from the Missouri Department of Revenue are up 11%, or $435,825, compared to June 2018. The check was $4,392,535, compared to the June 2018 revenue check in the amount of $3,956,710. On a year-to-date basis, sales tax revenues are up nearly 3%, or about $1,286,548 compared with the same time frame in 2018.

Compared to budget, revenues are up nearly 2% this month and just over 2% year to date.

The check reflects sales processed by the state in May from transactions made primarily in April.

The City heavily relies on sales tax revenues as its main source of revenue to fund vital services, such as police and fire operations. In Springfield, approximately 56 percent of revenue comes from sales tax and use tax.
