FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Families are encouraged to grab their blankets and lawn chairs and join City of Springfield Environmental Services for a special outdoor screening of Pixar’s Wall•E, 7-10:30 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 1 at the Peace Through People Pavilion at Nathanael Greene/Close Memorial Park (2400 S. Scenic Ave.).
This free, family-friendly event will include recycling education, hands-on activities and free popcorn prior to the movie. Activities will be provided by Environmental Services’ Solid Waste division, The Discovery Center and the Springfield-Greene County Park Board. The film will begin at sundown.
“Wall•E is a great movie to help tackle the topic of waste with kids and adults alike,” says Ashley Krug, Environmental Services Sustainability and Market Development Coordinator. “You can’t help but care about this little robot and wonder if the world he lives in may be ours someday. It makes us all consider what we can do as individuals and as a community to keep that from happening.”
The screening is another edition of Environmental Service’s “Enviro Flick” film series aimed at providing education and stimulating community discussion surrounding environmental topics.
About the Film
In the distant future, a small waste-collecting robot inadvertently embarks on a space journey that will ultimately decide the fate of mankind.
Wall•E is rated G with a recommended viewing age of 5+.
