Mayor McClure congratulates Lasers on championship win

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Mayor Ken McClure would like to congratulate the Springfield Lasers on their win Saturday night to secure the World TeamTennis Championship for a second consecutive season.

The Lasers completed a final-set rally to edge the New York Empire, 20-19, in the 44th World TeamTennis championship match before an audience which included World TeamTennis co-founder and International Tennis Hall of Famer Billie Jean King at Orleans Arena in Las Vegas.

The Lasers were undefeated at home this season.

“We are very proud of the coach, J.L. deJager, and the Lasers,” McClure said. “ They represented our community very well and we are fortunate to have the very best in professional tennis located right here in Springfield.”
