Missouri Job Center Offers Free Training for Environmental Jobs
The Missouri Job Center is seeking applicants for two upcoming sessions of the Green for Greene program; a free training in which participants earn certifications for environmental-related careers. Green for Greene is funded by a $200,000 grant from the Environmental Protection Agency.
The first session of these five-week trainings begins March 2, with a registration deadline of February 14. Participants will gain 13 certifications needed for environmental careers. Those certifications include OSHA 10, OSHA Hazwoper, Trenching & Excavation, Confined Space, Lead Renovation Repair & Paint, Lead Abatement, Mold Abatement, Asbestos Handler, Forklift Driver, Silica, Flagger, Bloodborne Pathogens and First Aid/CPR.
“We are very excited to have been awarded this grant for a third time,” said Program Manager Nick Groves. “Currently, we are looking for up to 18 people interested in career training in this exciting field. We’ve had a lot of success with this program, with most of our graduates obtain employment after graduation making more than $15 per hour on average,” he added.
Classes for the second session in 2020 begin June 8, with an application deadline of May 8. To learn more about this free training opportunity, attend an informational session every Tuesday at 9:30 am at the Missouri Job Center, 2900 E. Sunshine. You must be 18 or older to participate. To apply, go online to www.springfieldmo.gov/greenforgreene.
