FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
The City of Springfield’s Finance Department has been awarded the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting by the Government Finance Officers Association for its 2018 Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR). The award is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting, and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management, according to the GFOA.
“The CAFR has been judged by an impartial panel to meet the high standards of the program, which includes demonstrating a constructive spirit of full disclosure to clearly communicate its financial story and motivate potential users and user groups to read the CAFR,” said GFOA Technical Services Director Michele Mark Levine. “We hope that your example will encourage other government officials in their efforts to achieve and maintain an appropriate standard of excellence in financial reporting.”
The Chicago-based GFOA is a professional association serving the needs of over 20,000 appointed and elected local, state and provincial-level government officials and other finance practitioners.
The City’s Finance Department has earned this designation for 42 years in a row.
“This award is about financial openness, reporting transparency and government accountability,” said City Manager Jason Gage. “The City of Springfield takes pride in achieving this designation on behalf of its citizens.”
