The Springfield Police Department has updated the 2019 homicide numbers, decreasing the count by one (from 12 to 11). The change is in reference to an incident from October 2019 when the Springfield Fire Department investigated a fire in which one person died.
The initial report stated the cause was suspicious and they asked for our assistance in the death investigation. The death was recorded as a homicide while under investigation. The autopsy report has now been received and the investigation has determined the death was accidental. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
