September 17, 2020 -- Health Department launches COVID-19 educational toolkit for parents, students

COVID-19 News

To help families navigate a new set of challenges brought on by the pandemic this school year, the Springfield-Greene County Health Department has launched a new online educational toolkit for parents and students.

The toolkit provides valuable information on how parents can promote a healthy learning space and help their children adapt to a very different educational environment, whether they are back in class or learning from home.

The educational toolkit can be found at

It includes:

  • Guidance for families on how children can keep themselves and others healthy at home, in the classroom and while participating in after-school activities.
  • Information for parents on helping their children cope with the new normal of COVID-19.
  • A COVID-19 Kids Safety Pledge children of all ages can take to show their commitment to keeping themselves, their family and friends healthy.
  • A printable checklist of symptoms parents and children can review each morning to make sure children are well enough to go to class and be around others.
  • A video starring local kids on what COVID-19 is and how children can help slow the spread of disease.
  • Printable coloring and activity pages.

The toolkit also includes links to guidance pages for childcare centers and K-12 schools.

Children between the ages of 5 and 17 have accounted for 7% of new COVID-19 cases in the last two weeks in Greene County. Although this relatively low number is encouraging, we cannot let our guard down and must remain vigilant so we can continue to slow the spread of disease.

It’s critical that parents and students understand the importance of and practice the three Ws: Wash your hands; Wear your mask; Watch your distance. It’s also imperative to stay home when you are sick.
