Springfield Police Investigate S. Maryland Officer-Involved Shooting
On Nov. 2, 2020, at approximately 3:28 p.m., a Special Agent with the Drug Enforcement Administration was involved in an officer-involved shooting at 1827 S. Maryland. Agents on-scene secured the suspect and rendered aid, but the suspect died on-scene.
The deceased was identified as Caleb J. Slay, a 25-year-old male from Springfield, Missouri. Next of kin notifications have been made.
The Springfield Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Division is currently investigating this incident. Detectives are asking anyone who has information about this incident to contact the Springfield Police Department at 417-864-1810 or make an anonymous call to Crime Stoppers at 417-869-TIPS (8477).
Additional information added on Nov. 3, 2020: This marks the 22nd violent death in Springfield in 2020. Fifteen of those have been determined to be Murder under the FBI's Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) rules, one was classified as Negligent Manslaughter, and two cases were ruled justified after review by the Greene County Prosecutor. This case and four others remain under investigation to determine the appropriate classification.
