STATEMENT FROM MAYOR KEN MCCLURE
We are disappointed that Governor Mike Parson found it necessary to veto House Bill 1854 for reasons unrelated to the City of Springfield. The bill included a provision which would allow the City to take a possible increase in a lodging tax for tourism purpose to be submitted to voters for their approval. Also included in the bill was a provision to all Greene County voters to consider a tax to support early childhood education. However, these very needed provisions were included in a very large omnibus bill which unfortunately, included many different topics, not all of which are positive. We would like to commend Senator Lincoln Hough, Representative Craig Fishel and the entire Greene County legislative delegation for their tireless work on these important priorities for Springfield. We pledge to continue working to makes these a reality.
