FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
This week’s ‘Tough Talk’ will focus on the COVID-19 vaccine. Springfield-Greene County Health Department Medical Director Dr. Nancy Yoon and Assistant Director Katie Towns, MPH, will be available to answer questions and provide local statistics on the coronavirus, as well as shed light on issues surrounding the vaccine and the mass vaccination efforts going on in the community. The program takes place virtually from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 25 at prosperspringfield.org. Tough Talks are a series of community conversations geared toward positive action and are facilitated by Dr. Lyle Foster and Dr. Leslie Anderson. Foster is an Assistant Professor of Sociology at MSU and an active member of the greater Springfield community as a change agent and entrepreneur. Anderson is a Professor in the Counseling, Leadership and Special Education department at MSU and owner of Catalyst Consulting. Together, the duo has enlightened thousands of Springfieldians through their Facing Racism classes and other community engagements.
“Tough Talks” are created by a collaborative that is run by Community Partnership of the Ozarks and supported by partner organizations: City of Springfield, Community Foundation of the Ozarks, empower: abilities, Missouri Job Center, MSU Division for Diversity & Inclusion, Prosper Springfield, Springfield Area Chamber of Commerce, The Network and United Way of the Ozarks.
“Springfield is a great place to live, but we can’t reach our full potential unless we understand diverse points of view. ‘Tough Talks’ is an important first step to build relationships, engage in dialog and take action to end racism and build a more inclusive community,” said Dr. Foster.
