End of Watch Ride to Remember to Honor SPD Officer Chris Walsh on Sunday
On Sunday, Aug. 8, 2021, between 1-2 p.m., the Beyond the Call of Duty – End of Watch Ride to Remember will ride into our South District Station (2620 W. Battlefield Rd. Springfield, MO 65807) in honor of fallen SPD Officer Christopher Walsh
End of Watch Ride to Remember is a group of motorcycle riders from the state of Washington escorting a 41' trailer across the country to honor fallen officers from the prior year. This year’s ride to Remember takes place between May 28th and August 19, 2021. During that timeframe, six riders travel 22,300+ miles across the country, visiting cities and police departments to honor the men and women of law enforcement who paid the ultimate price in their service to our communities in 2020. Not only do they honor the fallen, but they also honor the families –- husbands and wives, sons and daughters, mothers and fathers, brothers, and sisters –- along with the officers left behind to pick up the pieces.
Spokesman and founder, Jagrut Shah, a former deputy sheriff, says they want to show departments and their families they are not alone. "I wanted to bridge this gap that we have and … and let the officers and their families know that their loss has not been forgotten."
Last year, the End of Watch Ride honored 146 fallen officers across the country. This year, they will honor the 338 officers who lost their lives in 2020 while serving their communities.
A peaceful community is a prosperous community, and we owe a debt of gratitude to those officers who make it possible for us to live in a peaceful and free society.
