Opportunities available next week for students 12+ to get a COVID-19 vaccine

news flash - vaccine update

Several opportunities are available in the coming week for students 12 and older to receive a COVID-19 vaccine before the start of a new school year. The Springfield-Greene County Health Department and Jordan Valley Community Health Center will hold several vaccination clinics at local schools and back-to-school events the week of August 16-22.

Following recommendation from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, local healthcare partners strongly recommend children 12 years and older get vaccinated. The vaccine will help protect students from getting COVID-19 once they become fully vaccinated and help keep them from getting seriously sick even if they do contract the virus. Parents can help protect their entire family by getting vaccinated and encouraging everyone 12 and older in their household to get vaccinated.

Currently, the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine is authorized for individuals 12 and older while the Moderna and Johnson & Johnson vaccines are authorized for everyone 18 and older.

As of today, 19% of individuals ages 12-20 have been fully vaccinated and nearly 44% of all eligible Greene County residents have been fully vaccinated.
