The Springfield-Greene County Health Department is offering two opportunities this week for vaccinated individuals who are immunocompromised to receive a third dose of the COVID-19 vaccine. Individuals who received two doses of the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine and meet the criteria outlined by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention can get a third dose of the vaccine on Wednesday, Aug. 25 from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. or Friday, Aug. 27 from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Westside Clinic located at 660 S. Scenic in Springfield. Appointments are required and can be made by visiting or calling 417-874-1211.

According to the CDC, people who are moderately to severely immunocompromised are especially vulnerable to COVID-19 and may not build the same level of immunity to the 2-dose vaccine series compared to those who are not immunocompromised. People who should consider a third dose include those who have:

  • Been receiving active cancer treatment for solid tumors or cancers of the blood
  • Received a solid organ transplant and are taking medicine to suppress the immune system
  • Received a stem cell transplant (within the last 2 years or are taking medicine to suppress the immune system)
  • Moderate or severe primary immunodeficiency (such as DiGeorge syndrome, Wiskott-Aldrich syndrome)
  • Advanced or untreated HIV infection
  • Active treatment with high-dose corticosteroids or other drugs that may suppress your immune response

People should talk to their healthcare provider about their medical condition, and whether getting an additional dose is appropriate for them.

For those who are unable to attend a clinic on Wednesday or Friday, they may obtain a third dose at any of our other vaccine clinics by visiting or calling the COVID-19 Call Center at 417-874-1211.

Inquiries from the public can be made by contacting the Health Department’s call center at (417) 874-1211 or by email at [email protected].
